About
The Idea
Photography competitions tend to work the same way: a jury looks at submissions, selects a handful of favourites, and the rest never see the light of day. Hamont One Shot flips that.
Here, the only question is whether your photo meets the guidelines. If it does, it gets hung on the wall at CoLodge during Supercrawl. First-time photographers sharing the same space as people who’ve been shooting for thirty years.
Then the public walks in. They look at every photograph. And they vote for the one that moves them most.
This contest is inspired by the contests held by the Swiss Photo Club, but held here in Ontario.
What Makes a Photo Eligible
Photos eligible for the Hamont One Shot can be any subject, any style, any camera. The photo must be your own original work: meaning an original in-camera capture, not AI-generated. Standard editing is expected and encouraged.
We do not accept cameraless photographic techniques (e.g. cyanotypes, photograms, radiographs, etc), collages, or composite images that are not captured in camera. In camera double exposures, both analog and digital, and other in camera effects are accepted.
Full details, such as technical requirements, file specs, and post-processing rules, are in the Terms & Conditions.
The Venue: CoLodge
CoLodge is a collaborative arts & media facility operated by Corduroy Earth. It's located at 288 James St N, Hamilton, ON L8R 2L3 in the space above Farside.
Unfortunately the venue is not wheelchair accessible. There is a flight of stairs up to the space with two steep steps at the top.
The Event: Supercrawl
Supercrawl is Hamilton’s annual arts and music festival that takes over the downtown core every September. Across multiple stages and dozens of venues, the festival brings together music, visual art, and the city’s creative community in one weekend. The gallery at CoLodge will be open throughout Supercrawl, giving thousands of visitors the chance to walk through the exhibition and cast a vote.
Your Rights
You always keep the copyright to your photo. By submitting, you grant us a limited license to print and display your work in the exhibition. We don’t use your image for promotional purposes, social media, press materials, or advertising, without your separate, explicit consent. That consent is opt-in, collected at submission. You can say no and still have your work fully on the wall.
Where you do give promotional consent, we’ll credit you by name and/or handle wherever we reasonably can.
